João P Nogueira Visiting the International Political Sociology Node at Queen Mary University of London

João P. Nogueira is visiting the Research Group International Political Sociology this autumn as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow in the School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London.

João Pontes Nogueira is Professor of International Relations at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

His work currently focuses on the conceptual architecture of the field of International Political Sociology, more specifically on the concepts of transversality, fracturing and foldings and its analytical potentials for the study of processes of urbanization, new practices of counter-politics and the organization of social movements.  These strands of research are developed in collaboration with Jef Huysmans.   João is also researching the dynamics of urban insurrections in Chile and Colombia and the challenges they raise for the understanding of contemporary forms of political contestation and their articulation with new social movements.

He also coordinates the IPS Winter School, an annual event dedicated to teaching and training advanced graduate students and early career scholars in the conceptual frameworks and research agendas of International Political Sociology.  The IPS Winter School takes place in Rio de Janeiro during the first weeks of the month of July.   Finally, João also coordinates the IPS Brazil Network, gathering students and researchers interested in engaging with the field in Brazil.
