Doing International Political Sociology at the EISA Pan European Conference 2022 in Athens

In a sweltering Athens after two years of online conferencing only, it was great to see that international political sociology remains a diverse and real intellectual force in the European International Studies Association. The Standing Section Doing International Political Sociology, co-chaired by Jef Huysmans (Queen Mary) and Joao P. Nogueira (PUC-Rio) organised 16 panels and roundtables, representing the richness and variety of research done in International Political Sociology.

Doing IPS panels and roundtables included:

  • Bodies, security, ruins: themes in IPS.

  • The problem of difference in IPS: fracturing logics of representation involved in polarising identity and power politics today?

  • Writing from the peripheries: doing international relations in Europe.

  • Contemporary reconfigurations of security, law and human rights.

  • Critical methodologies in IPS.

  • Fracturing ‘the international’ in IPS.

  • The politics of international organisation.

  • Motioning the international.

  • Policing’s contested relationalities.
